    Mid October update
    Well on the nhl front my Devils are playing like spanked-monkey-poop!!! but Puck-eaters Phlyers are doing very well good on ya!!
    the last week has seen a multitude of changes.
    1. got told by the OIC that 'I'm too important to leave' that's a nice compliment but what it really means is that i've been extended six additional months.
    2. The multitude of high priority projects has gotten shorter since the SatTV on the Command Deck was repaired. Not like i did anything but facilitate the repairs but it looks good to have BBC news playing 24/7 with the occasional late night flip to one of the Arab boobie channels.
    3. Getting the move (imagine musical chairs except with multi person multi-problem departments) is problematic. Just found out that the new space my servers are moving to doesn't have the power to support the servers AND the two IT people (one or the other). I have to now beg the on-post contrators to add not only power but A/C to the new area. Wish me luck.
    4. Was ordered to take a day off by my OIC yesterday. It seems I caught a bug and was all sickly looking (and feeling) and the Commander ordered me to go back to my room and sleep/rest/get better. That's the first time that's ever happened.
    5. The 'feather-in-my-cap' projects are movng forward very slowly. Due to the fact that i work 16-19 hours a day and the folks in the States that can provide me with answers to speed my processes along work 8-10 hours; I feel like time is crawling by but in reality it is moving the same for everyone.
    6. Ok who on earth let's a PC repair leave their shop without QCing it?? Well the knuckledragges here do of course!! I turned in 3 laptops to be 'baselined' and what do these neanderthals do? goofed all three! One wasn't the right classification level, and the other two didn't have NIC drivers installed!! WTF?? and I'm now made to wait while the person that needs these PCs is made to suffer. That is just wrong.

    Update
    So the weather here is turning cooler and just in the nick of time too, we've been directed to wear our body armour anytime we're not under cover, so we're not sweating our livers out. Good news i'm getting half a million dollars worth of equipment in for the technology enclave. It means a LOT of work for me but when i pull this off i'll look like King IT-Geek in the eyes of the important folks here and that's never bad. I helped facilitate the elimination of my commander's pet peeve, the lack of cable TV in the command bldg. I got a satellite repair person to come by the compound and he and I along with Boris got the whole thing working. So now the CO or anyone else can watch arab porn to their hearts content. The channel as far as I know stays on BBC news and sports; we are a coalition joint service organization. I took the first steps yesterday to get this group of servers and such accredited and certified. This will be a 4 to 5 months to get it all squared away, but when i do it will be a huge feather in my cap and maybe even a raise/bonus. The guy i'm working with here the C&A expert was here last year and he has a company in the States so when i'm done here I may have a very lucrative position doing C&A back in the states or coming back out here for alot of $$$,$$$. With the increase in heavy rain i didn't make it over to the party last night; it's a twice a month get together over adult beverages, so that's fun. Stay in with the rest of the crew grilling burgers. I have a few hot topic items to knock out today...inventory...exchange maint...complete the file migration to the new SAN. Just regular run of the mill stuff, and go for a run before it gets too hot and move into the new hooch.

    sunday..half day
    so today is Sunday and the command allows us a half day not like that means anything because i work 19 hours a day to support the mission here. I have to say that i love this mission and the people here. A completely different situation than the last time i was here. I honestly can say if this is what my six months will be like I'll not have a problem extending. The weather here is hot but it is turning for the better. There is rain scheduled for this week, but the forecast here changes daily. I just checked and there is only one day that is over one hundred, so that is good. I have three major projects to accomplish before the current Commander leaves and one before he'll stop referring to me by my hated middle name.
    So i need to go and get dressed and out the door, our the door of the office/server room/my bedroom. oh well can't have everything...or can you?

    UPDATE: well 19 hours a day will really make you wonder how well you perform under pressure. I've been running full steam nineteen hours a day since Sunday and except for some foggy moments in the morning I'm Right as the Rain.

    First Impressions
    Ok so let me first say that i'm here and safe and getting a rip-roaring start to the next 6 months. The weather maybe turning better at the end of the week, but the last two days has been very hot. I share an office with one chap who seems pretty cool. Found a party at the FBI house that was freakin' cool. Mmmm John Smiths Ale Yummy it was an invite only for anyone with testosterone but if you can bear children it's Come On Over!! but hey adult beverages and women in civilian clothes? I'm all for it!

    So the airline lost one of my duffel bags so that bites! but the good part is that it 'should' be here tonight hopefully; not sure how i'm going to be able to go get it but it is supposed to be here. Maybe i'll just ask the folks running the flight on this end how i can go get it or better have it lugged to the terminal.

    Well I'm going to try to keep this page up to date with things and stuff as it happens so stay tuned.

    Getting out of Doge take two
    ok so Tuesday's abortive attempt to get out was preempted by foul weather in Chicago. So back to the house and two hours of rescheduling flights and now today I'm off. The first leg was BUMPY!!! WOW good thing i'm not prone to airsickness, the passenger next to me was a professional pilot and he was more critical than I was, but at least i'm here now on my 5+ hour lay over. The Red Carpet Lounge here at IAD is nice. albeit a bit crowded, but at least i'm in a cumfy chair and i have all the alcohol i want, which isn't much. Yeah now i can get power to the laptop so i don't have to waste my battery. Dropped flowers off for the newest Moore hope they are all doing well. Chatted with my Mum and got my haircut (no not at the same time), and was able to get everything between us squared away.
    Well four hours forty minutes to go :-)

    Murphy I HATE YOU!!!
    ok it seems i jinxed myself by announcing to Lissette and Constantina that the flight for today was going to be easy. BAH!!! Murphy in his infinite evilness has cursed me for my folly. Weather delays in the rust belt would have had me pushing back form RIC FIVE minutes before my Dulles flight was lifting off, no physical way to make that work. My ride to RIC thought, 'I'll drive you to Dulles we have time.' ERRRRRRRRR RIC to Dulles plus traffic plus getting through TSA and check-in...put me at least 30 minutes too late. So i'm at home trying to get the three legged dog to run sprints and coordinate flights and schedules to get me to my next adventure. Got to visit with Constantina and the little Prince and Heir today and fed him and held him. it was great. So other than weather difficulties it was a great day. More later. Here, *raising my glass*, is to the new Moore who with God's help and a few pushes will arrive this night.

    This weekend
    Had a good weekend if a little rushed. Getting everything in order for my Tuesday departure and miss having the confidence that if i miss anything i had a concrete support system to pick up the fumble and help. Last time was great for that aspect but i never knew, nor did I ever thank my support system for all their work. Let me rectify that:
    Thank you! You know who you are so I will not embarrass you here, although you might look fun in red *snicker*

    Went to the Caer G event and it was HOT!! and Humid!! Made some elementary mistakes yesterday trying to make a go at a stress-free fighting event. Did properly hydrate, Didn't eat lunch, Did get to fight my Brother William, but promptly collapsed from the heat. Never had six different people strip me to my braises, I don't recommend it. Sorry for causing undue stress in everyone's day over my own stupidity. After a few liters of water and realizing that I was nearly naked in public in front of strangers I got some clothes on and was nearly human again. I did find out that my spankingly lovely pig-face helm is going to take alot to get used to, and that I have GOT TO GOT GOT TO increase my aerobic endurance. So to that end while away i'm going to workout one way or another everyday, and set a goal of running on a track at least an 8 minute mile by Christmas. Had a wonderful conversation with William and alot of our differences were bridged and and I cannot wait to hear him get elevated; I'm hoping i can get enough advanced notice to make an appearance to it. I would really like to be there to support him. Overall a nice final event, only marring was the stress i caused a few for my own stupidity. I apologize for that, I didn't mean to.

    So starting this week you can send cards to me at

    Men Strike Back
    How many men does it take to open a beer?
    None. It should be opened when she brings it.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    Why is a Laundromat a really bad place to pick up a woman?
    Because a woman who can't even afford a washing machine will probably never be able to support you.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    Why do women have smaller feet than men?
    It's one of those "evolutionary things" that allows
    Them to stand closer to the kitchen sink.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    How do you know when a woman is about to say
    Something smart?
    When she starts a sentence with "A man once told me..."
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    How do you fix a woman's watch?
    You don't. There is a clock on the oven.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    Why do men fart more than women?
    Because women can't shut up long enough to
    Build up the required pressure.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    If your dog is barking at the back door and your wife is
    Yelling at the front door, who do you let in first?
    The dog, of course. He'll shut up once you let him in.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    I married a Miss Right.
    I just didn't know her first name was Always.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    Scientists have discovered a food that diminishes
    A woman's sex drive by 90%.
    It's called a Wedding Cake.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    Why do men die before their wives?
    They want to.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    Women will never be equal to men?

    Until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer
    Gut, and still think they are sexy.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    In the beginning, God created the earth and rested.
    Then God created Man and rested.
    Then God created Woman.
    Since then, neither God nor Man has rested.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    For the masses I will be moving next week. I just wanted to say fare thee well to all.

    Summer Update
    Whew...what a summer !!!
    Let me first say a huge congrats to all the couples who will have new bundles of joy arriving. May they be happy, and healthy babies.
    The new job is going great! I actually am writing this entry from Georgia as I am on assignment here for the week; getting things squared away in preparation for my final assignment out of country supporting the War effort. I can tell you it is mind numbingly hot here. Even in shorts it is hot enough that without being told people are slurping down gallons of water at a sitting. What is funny is that I had wished for something like this some five years ago and now that I have a traveling job, living out of suitcases, I'd give it all back!! LOL It's very tough on the body and mind to constantly be moving around like I do now. Well I have to be over on site soon so I'll leave off with that everything has worked out well and for a reason so that is good, I'm happy and I hope and wish you well.

    July 4th Update
    The new job is very very interesting. I get to work with all sorts of 'interesting' data and things that go 'BOOM' in any light. For anyone who's been to Southern Maryland, its very pretty here, it reminds me of Eastern North Carolina. The weather broke here yesterday so its mild and somewhat humid, but the beginning of the week was Iraq hot, so that was helpful. Working in support of the guys over in I & A (keep an eye out Brother you could see my work while you're there) is exhilarating. Much better than the previous work as a desktop clown.
    This weekend I get to go six hours south and spend the day with 75% of my family, so this will be my vacation.

    They Walk Among Us!
    They walk among us

    I walked into a Blimpie's with a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for a
    sandwich. I handed it to the girl and she looked over at a little
    chalk board that said "buy one-get one free". "They're already
    buy-one-get-one-free", she said, "so, I guess they're both free".
    She handed me my free sandwiches and I walked out the door.
    They walk among us and many work retail.
    ====================
    A friend of mine bought a new fridge for his house. To get rid of
    his old fridge, he put it in his front yard and hung a sign on it saying:
    "Free to good home. You want it, you take it." For three days the fridge
    sat there without even one person looking twice at it. My friend
    decided that people were too untrusting of this deal. It looked
    too good to be true, so he changed the sign to read: "Fridge for
    sale $50." The next day someone stole it.
    They walk among us.
    ====================
    One day I was walking down the beach with some friends when one of
    them shouted, "Look at that dead bird!" Someone looked up at the
    sky and said, "Where?"
    They walk among us!
    ====================
    While looking at a house, my brother asked the real estate agent
    which direction was north because, he explained, he didn't want the
    sun waking him up every morning. She asked, "Does the sun rise in
    the north?" When my brother explained that the sun rises in the east,
    and has for sometime, she shook her head and said,

    "Oh, I don't keep up with that stuff."
    They Walk Among Us!!
    ====================
    I used to work in technical support for a 24/7 call center. One day
    I got a call from an individual who asked what hours the call center
    was open. I told him, "The number you dialed is open 24 hours a day, 7
    days a week." He responded, "Is that Eastern or Pacific time?"
    Wanting to end the call quickly, I said, "Uh, Pacific."
    They Walk Among Us!
    ====================
    My colleague and I were eating our lunch in our cafeteria, when we
    overheard one of the administrative assistants talking about the
    sunburn she got on her weekend drive to the shore. She drove down in
    a convertible, but "didn't think she'd get sunburned because the car
    was moving."
    They Walk Among Us!
    ====================

    My sister has a lifesaving tool in her car designed to cut through a
    seat belt if she gets trapped. She keeps it in the trunk.
    They Walk Among Us!
    ====================
    I was hanging out with a friend when we saw a woman with a nose ring
    attached to an earring by a chain. My friend said, "Wouldn't the
    chain rip out every time she turned her head?" I explained that a
    person's nose and ear remain the same distance apart no matter which way
    the head is turned.
    They Walk Among Us!
    ====================
    I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area, so I went to
    the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never
    showed up. She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a
    trained professional and I was in good hands. "Now," she asked me,
    "has your plane arrived yet?"
    They Walk Among Us!
    ====================
    While working at a pizza parlor I observed a man ordering a small
    pizza to go. He appeared to be alone and the cook asked him if he
    would like it cut into 4 pieces or 6. He thought about it for some
    time before responding. "Just cut it into 4 pieces; I don't think
    I'm hungry enough t o eat 6 pieces."
    Yep, They Walk Among Us!

    with only 24 minutes left i hit the Finish button and prayed.
    The print out came out next door and i cringed to read it. 916....out of 1000 i had passed. But WOW !!! I hate Cisco!!! they are so not fair! Trick questions, ambiguous questions. I curse you gods of Cisco!!! Curse you I say!!

    *muttering* curse you!
